Maintaining A World Class Apprentice Program
Abstract
Many mills rely on strategy of hiring away people
from competing facilities to fill the certain future shortage
of qualified crafts people. Learn why this strategy will
fail and how to lower cost by creating a new or elevating
your existing apprenticeship program to world class level.
This workshop is presented by an award winning industry professional
and bold thinker. This session will address specific questions
on the design, development and implementation of Apprentice
Programs and will be in line with discussion and workshop
format.
Bio
Larry has 40 years of training development
and implementation experience with 13 years of
Pulp and Paper Industry experience in the areas
of technical training, education and development
culminating in job skills certification. Additionally,
he has 17 years experience as an adjunct faculty
college instructor supporting business and industrial
educational and training needs. Mr. Owen received
a B.S. in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine
University and a M.S. in Personnel Management from
Troy State University. He has implemented two Apprentice
Programs in Paper Mills and recently started his
tenth apprentice class of General Mechanics and
E/I's. The programs result in graduates receiving
Department of Labor Journeyman Certificates and
Associate of Applied Technology degrees in Industrial
Maintenance.
