J. Potts, Jr. is vice president and general
manager at Inland Paperboard and Packaging in Rome, Georgia and a vice president for TAPPI.
Potts began his career with Union Camp in 1969 as an industrial
engineer and worked his way through various
operational and management positions, including
Resident Manager of the Union Camp mill in Prattville, Alabama before
returning to the Savannah mill as General Manager and Senior
Vice President in 1992. Potts joined Inland Paperboard and Packaging
in 1999.
He holds a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering
from the Georgia Institute of Technology
and completed the Executive Program at the University of Virginia.
Potts served as PIMA president in 1995, and remains on
the Board of
Trustees. Potts is a former member of TAPPI's Board of Directors
and he chaired the TAPPI Annual Meeting
Committee during TAPPI 99. In recognition of
his outstanding service to TAPPI and the industry, Potts
was named a TAPPI Fellow in 1999.
In addition to his TAPPI activities, Potts is active in
numerous community, civic and industry
groups including past president of the Auburn University Pulp
and Paper Foundation, the Containerboard Committee of AF&PA,
United Way, the Boy Scouts of America,
the Georgia Council on Economic Education, and several other organizations and philanthropic efforts.
